Data Ingestion

What we do

We develop in core Microsoft components, whether with SQL Server using the standard SQL stack technologies for ETL, such as SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), or using MS Azure and Data Factory.  We can integrate and deploy using technologies such as MatchIT, Wherescape, Talend & other utilities, this gives us has an extensible set of components and framework for ETL development.

What is Data Ingestion?

ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) is the generic term used when referring to the process of ingesting and consolidating data into a system. ETL developments are highly bespoke to the type of data feeds required, and our development team adapt and design appropriately. We want to draw distinctions between writing “historic” SQL scripts and more modern ETL developments. These require a different development skillset and afford clients significant advantages.

We do note that putting SQL Code into an ETL is not the same thing!

Microsoft's Modern Data Warehouse Approach

As cloud computing becomes increasingly adopted by organisations, Microsoft have defined a “modern” data warehousing approach within Azure, where different components are integrated to ingest incoming data sources, transform and develop these, and then make them available to end user through BI applications, such as Power BI.

Adroit has experience developing data-driven workflows in the cloud using Microsoft Azure Data Factory to automate data movement and data transformation between supported data stores. Adroit have developed data pipelines and data bricks for clients to move and clean data from multiple sources into a Single Customer View; this cleaned and the standardised data source is then used within the Model and Serve deliverables within the Modern Data Warehouse.
