A comparison of income sources

This chart shows the percentage of overall Gross Income that is generated from the three income types we’ve concentrated on. Where the combined value of these three falls below the 100% of Gross Income it means the charity has received income through other sources, such as Government grants or Endowments or Investments.

The figures shown are those reported for 2023/24.

Which income source grew more?

This chart compares the growth rate from 2022/23 to 2023/24 for two groups of UK charities – the development & humanitarian charities we’ve been looking at, and ten charities we’ve named ‘much loved’ – charities which are among the most popular in the UK that represent a range of categories / causes.

You can alter the income source by using the drop down in the chart – so you can view growth rate by Donations & Legacies, Charitable Income, Other Trading Activities, and Gross Income overall.

By hovering your cursor over the box we can see the median value of growth rate for those charities, and we see that for all income sources the ‘Much Loved’ charities out-performed the development and humanitarian charities in terms of growth.

The list of charities we used to make up the Much Loved comparison are listed below.

Which grew more – Donations & Legacy income or Total Gross Income?
